The Sundream Stone shines over Yoshi’s Island and makes the land warm and bright. When Baby Bowser learns that the Sundream Stone has the potential to fulfill the owner’s wildest dreams, he and Kamek set out to steal it…but instead send the gems scattering across the island. It is up to Yoshi and his brothers to retrieve the gems and restore the Sundream Stone before it is too late.

The Yoshi games are always a bit iffy for me. I like some of their creativity, but in general, the challenge level of the games isn’t that hard. Unlike a story driven game, you are essentially playing it to play it…and occasionally, the game does things to be real creative, but it doesn’t necessarily feel compelling.
Burt the Ball, we’re coming for you!

6-5 Yoshi Woolly World 3 1
The game is typical Mario filtered through Yoshi wish Yoshi trying to collect lost gems on Yoshi Island’s and Baby Bowser and Kamek dogging them the entire way. The Yoshi games are slick and intuitive, but they are also not to the level of difficulty of New Super Mario or Donkey Kong games. I wish that between Yoshi-Kirby-Mario-Donkey Kong that Nintendo would find a nice happy medium side scroller that doesn’t bore nor makes you want to pull you hair out.
The controls for the game are pretty consistent with other Yoshi games and are easy to master. With the “hover jump”, it is much easy to save yourself and accuracy isn’t a priority. The game varies control gameplay by having levels where Yoshi’s movements control cars, fly planes, or track levels where the goal is to get a certain number of points in essentially a shooting fest. There is variety in the controls, but I wish that the “special levels” were more regular and less one-offs…fortunately, there isn’t a ton of the irritating Poochy.
Wow…Baby Bowser got big…what a shock! (said no one)
Yoshi Woolly World 5-6
What Yoshi succeeds in creativity. Woolly World crafted Yoshi out of yarn and played with the idea of crafting and “homemade Yoshi”. This entry steps up the craft approach and creates worlds in a pop-up book fashion. The surroundings are made of man-made material (kind of like the miniature world of Pikmin) and these are often used creatively like the taped boxes of Cheery Valley’s “Open, Shut!” or the mobiles of Outer Orbit’s “Ride the Stars”.
Yoshi’s Crafted World is long and there is a lot of replay to it (each level has a number of flowers to collect in multiple run-throughs with “find” missions). In that sense, the game is a great purchase. It will keep you busy but taking breaks in playing it will be mandatory since the Crafted World sometimes feels a bit repetitive…but always manages to do with style.

Yoshi, the Terror of All Boos is the fifth level of World 6 in Yoshi's Woolly World. Layout[edit]The level begins with a vertical area, and two Frame Boos that Yoshi must use to travel up the corridor to a door (which can be done by eating the Boo Guys in the room on the right). When entering the next room, Yoshi must then throw yarn balls at Boo platforms to reach the next door. The first checkpoint appears, followed by a few Fooly Flowers and another door in a hidden alcove. This leads to another door, which in turn leads to an ! Switch. It solidifies a wall of outlined blocks, which Yoshi can use to hit a Boo platform and reach another door. The next room has two Present Boxes and another door. The room after that has a Big Frame Boo and a key. Yoshi must lure the Big Frame Boo to the area with the locked door, then ride it to the door. The second checkpoint appears afterward, along with several Boo platforms that Yoshi must use to enter a door on the right. The next room consists of many Big Frame Boos, as well as a third ! Switch. Yoshi must use a Big Frame Boo to reach a door on the left. Afterwards, Yoshi must hit one final ! Switch and follow it to the Goal Ring. Collectibles[edit]Smiley Flowers[edit]- Smiley Flower 1: In a hidden Winged Cloud directly above the elevated podium near the start of the level. Yoshi must throw a yarn ball at it to collect it (which, again, can be done by eating the Boo Guys in the room on the right).
- Smiley Flower 2: In a hidden Winged Cloud right in the place of the third Fooly Flower.
- Smiley Flower 3: Unveiled after hitting a hidden Winged Cloud near the first ! Switch.
- Smiley Flower 4: In a hidden Winged Cloud behind the first Big Frame Boo.
- Smiley Flower 5: Yoshi must take the door on the left after the second checkpoint. Inside the secret area, Yoshi must hit a Winged Cloud on the top left to reveal the Smiley Flower.
Wonder Wools[edit]- Wonder Wool 1: Just before the door leading to the first checkpoint, Yoshi must throw a yarn ball at a boo platform on the left and move the wall to reveal the Wonder Wool.
- Wonder Wool 2: Instead of following the hidden alcove, Yoshi can enter the door in plain sight. Inside the secret area, Yoshi must follow the path left and find the Wonder Wool in the second hidden alcove.
- Wonder Wool 3: When reaching the second ! Switch (inside of a Present Box), Yoshi must use the nearby Frame Boo (inside another Present Box) and reach the top to a hidden alcove with the Wonder Wool.
- Wonder Wool 4: Inside the room with many Big Frame Boos, up above on the right.
- Wonder Wool 5: Just above, right next to the final Fooly Flower. Yoshi must jump on the Fooly Flower to collect it.
